Power of Silence

Late last year I got sick enough to lose my voice.  For a solid week, I had laryingitis!  Students loved it!  They said, “it was kinda nice not having you be able to bark at us.”  Yes, it taught me a couple of lessons:  tone it down, turn it off and maintain yourself.

I am constantly working on the “tone it down and turn it off” part.  Afterall, I am a talker and a bit of a perfectionist in some sense.  Balance is the constant working thread, I guess.

Anyway, the maintance part, kicked in big time this year with my re-focused energy on losing the darn extra 8-10 pounds I had collected in the past two years or so.  Running, lunging, squatting, pumping my body to lose them (shedded nicely at this writing, I might add) started to take a big toll on me.  I needed hands-on regular attention and found the perfect therapy and masters thereof.

Massage

Susan had given me Bill Forbes, Natural Spirit Massage, name and number a year earlier, a NY/NJ State Licensed Massage Therapist that works out of his home in North Bergen.  He has “wonderful hands,” she said, and “he is blind.”

The fact that he was a man, was important, as I wanted strong hands to kneed the kinks out of my body.  The fact that [SinglePic not found]he was blind was nice, as I knew his sense of touch would be even more powerful.  Having both NY/NJ license to practice the art and therapy of massage is tantamount.  It meant he knew his stuff and I could enjoy and heal myself in ease and comfort with him.

Well, I must say, it has been three months now and I am going back to Billy 2X for my monthly maintenance plan.  We can talk, and sometimes do.  Sometimes I sing while he works (music is always playing) and sometimes I just enjoy the power of my silence as he works.

Acupuncture

I think the world of Dr. Shing-Hung Loh, Dao-Sheng Acupunture, and have been telling everyone and everybody about him since I stumbled upon him.  He served as Chief Head of Hematology and Oncology at St. Mary’s Hospital, Hoboken, NJ since 1987 and elected to stop using western medicine to focus on the exclusive practice of the ancient eastern science of acupunture for natural health and healing.

[SinglePic not found]I found him as a result of another referral from a Pilates Student who called him, “the Healer.” From the insertion of the first 2-5 needles, my mind, body and spirit seem to completely let go.  By the time he has finished inserting all the strategic needles for my treatment (usually done within 5-7 minutes), I am jello on the table and snoring seconds later.  He applies heat to a specific area to enhance the energy flow thru the body and covers me, if needed and leaves the room.

He returns 30 minutes later, removes all the needles, and I awaken refreshed, open and thoroughly relaxed.  Now my issues are those of maintenance only. However, Dr. Loh, as a Western/Eastern trained physician and healer works “small miracles” with the widest breadth of physical and human ailments and conditions.

Silence.  Maintenance. Powerful
